CapCityKids, or The Capital City Fund for Education (CCFE), is a non-profit organization providing financial assistance to AISD's Project HELP.
Project HELP works to ease the effects of homelessness on students and to help them succeed in school through a number of essential supportive activities, including:
- enrollment assistance
- transportation
- tutoring
- school supplies
- links to childcare services
- student support services
Project HELP receives some grant funding, but not enough to accomplish its mission. For the school year beginning September, 2007, CapCityKids has raised $101,000 to fund the following Project HELP expenses:
- Case Worker $35,000
- Assistant Teacher $28,000
- Two Certified Teachers in Emergency Shelter $20,000
- Bus Passes for students requiring transportation (sometimes to the school district they were living in when they lost their homes) $7,000
- Employee Travel Expenses (to visit shelters, etc.) $3,500
- Forms to identify students without homes $2,500
- School Supplies $2,000*
- Refreshments for Special Enrichment Events $1,000
- Office Supplies $1,000
- Tuition for enrichment activities, such as day camp $500
- Fees and Dues $500
*In addition to the $2,000 budgeted for school supplies, CCFE has provided additional funds for over 3,000 backpacks and other school supplies as well as for shoes and clothing for dozens of students in need.
